After three years of inactivity, I became the primary maintainer of the aMQTT open-source project and led a major revitalization effort. I modernized the codebase from EOL versions of python to support for 3.10+, fixed long-standing bugs, and improved performance and reliability. Key contributions include comprehensive documentation, Docker-based containerization, and extensible authentication mechanisms — adding support for signed certificates, HTTP-based auth, LDAP, and database-backed credentials.
While solar panel prices have dropped to make them cost-effective, installation remains expensive due to bespoke designs tailored to each facility. Large areas of asphalt—like stadium lots or seasonal mall parking—are often underutilized and unsuitable for permanent installations. To address this, I designed and built a solar tracking system, including custom motor drivers, a controller, and RS-485 sensor network. I also developed the full software stack to automatically orient the array toward the sun, boosting solar efficiency by over 50%.
Led development of a hybrid energy management platform for commercial EV fleets. Coordinated cross-functional teams across hardware, firmware, and cloud software to integrate on-site energy sources—including solar, batteries, and generators—to reduce peak demand charges and improve resiliency. The platform leveraged linear solvers and AI-based optimization to manage energy usage both at the site level and across entire fleets, helping customers avoid long-term utility penalties.
Key components included an OCPP 2.0-compliant charger interface and AI-driven scheduling software capable of operating autonomously during cloud outages. Edge devices interfaced with battery storage systems, generators, and other off-grid sources—including equipment from ELM, CATL, and Hyliion—to form resilient microgrids. When networked together, these microgrids operated as interconnected “power islands,” dynamically shifting loads and resources to maximize uptime and efficiency.
Built a vehicle telemetry platform to optimize EV charging based on real-world usage. Collected real-time data via CANBus and J1939 (JDB), including diagnostics, GPS, and accelerometer streams. Data was transmitted over 4G to the cloud for continuous analysis of performance, wear, and charging needs. Pictured is a rapid prototype developed and assembled for limited production (including firmware) in under two months.
For those who are remote and traveling, access to their physical mail is a challenge. Instead, you can have your mail forwarded to a service which gathers it, scans the envelopes (and packages) and enables you to view the items online. As their business grows, the company needed a way of increasing the speed of image capture and identification of items for sorting purposes.
An embedded system – comprised of a single board computer and a mirrorless camera – was designed & assembled with custom software to handle the processing of 15K items daily. In the first nine months of operation, the system has has captured 2M+ images.

Phenotype’s goal is to create personalized garments with designs based on analyzing a person’s brain waves during a meditative session. Destined for a retail environment, each installation requires a real-time experience of audio, data processing, media generation and display.

Establishes connection with the Muse™ EEG headset, coordinates the start of the meditation session and displays the TouchDesigner real-time visualizations.

A complete testing fixture for Simtek.io’s second generation IoT product built inside a travel case for easy and safe shipment to their manufacturing facility in China.
It includes a custom built pcb for driving the mechanical functionality as well as a 3-d printed fixture to securely hold the device under test as well as custom ui for ease of use.

Functionality included current draw measurement ranging from 70 µA to 500 mA, servo motor control for vibration testing, ability to determine quality of light & passive infra-red sensor, cellular modem validation.
